Maddey Donley, along with some special friends, is a cover girl on "Be Healthy", a magazine of the Grand Rapids Press appearing in the August 2008 edition. Cover story:  " Thomas Swartzmiller, along with his sister Ava, snuggle in for some time with therapy dog, Maddey, at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital.  Therapy dogs are being used by health care providers as a proven way to reach beyond a patient's fear and pain, to find comfort and hope".   Jodi Stanley, with photos by Kathy Denton, wrote an excellent account of the benefits of pet therapy (with a little cooperation  from a few  four-legged WMTD members.  Other photos include Pierson Duthler and Indigo Lewis).

Popular Dogs® is a series of breed-specific magabooks (books in magazine format) that inform and instruct about the care necessary to properly raise specific breeds.

The latest publication by the editors of "Dog Fancy Magazine" in their "Popular Dogs Series" featuring Miniature Schnauzers has an article entitled "Lending A Paw" by Joan Hustace Walker.  Wrigley and Skaela, both members of WMTD, are pictured in this article which discusses Schnauzers as therapy dogs.  Their parents are Kathy and Bruce McLenithan.

More celebrities among us have won the title of "Therapy Companion Animal of the Year" presented by the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association.  Each year the MVMA solicits from its veterinarian members animal nominations for 2 awards - for companion animal and for therapy companion animal with ideals which include service, affection, value and comfort.  The 2007 award went to Teddy Bear. Mom, Kathy Walsh,  knew that Teddy was not the typical Aussie and was destined to be a therapy dog.  Congratulations, Teddy, and thanks for the great work you do in our community.

David and Debbie Szot also knew their boxer, Riley, would be a "healer of souls" long before he won the MVMA "Therapy Companion Animal of the Year" in 2006.  He became a member of WMTD at age 4 months!

Kudos to Teddy and Riley !
